MEDIA RELEASE March 20, 2019
Dorset Heritage Museum Expansion Project Receives an
Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant
Algonquin Highlands –The Township of Algonquin Highlands is excited to announce that it has been successful in securing a $150,000 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to assist in costs associated with a 960 square foot expansion project at the Dorset Heritage Museum. The grant contract was signed at a Council meeting today.
“Congratulations to the Township of Algonquin Highlands for receiving a $150,000 grant for the Dorset Heritage Museum. I am pleased that this grant will help bring local history to life, strengthen community pride, and educate future generations,” said MPP Laurie Scott.
The OTF grant will be added to the over $100,000 that has been raised to support the estimated project cost of $270,000.
This enhancement will provide additional meeting, display and storage space, enriching people’s lives through arts, culture and heritage. The Township is committed to continuing to enhance recreational and cultural opportunities and the museum is a key asset for displaying community pride in the past.
The Township’s Dorset Museum Committee have been working for two years to develop plans and fundraise in support of this initiative. Expected to begin later this year, the completion is anticipated in the fall of 2020. Thank you to all the generous donors and volunteers who help to make such a wonderful space available to thousands of visitors each year.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded more than $120 million to some 700 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario. For more information, please visit: www.otf.ca
